From Sue Friedman, DVM Executive Director FORCE: Participants still needed for Important Survey

Risk Reduction Decision-Making in Women with BRCA1 and BRCA2 Gene Mutations

The Moffitt Cancer Center, in collaboration with the University of South Florida, is conducting a study to better understand how women who are BRCA1 and BRCA2 go about making decisions about reducing their risk of breast cancer. The study is titled Risk Reduction Decision-Making in Women with BRCA1 and BRCA2 Gene Mutations, and consists of taking a one-time, on-line survey.

Research in this area will hopefully help women who are BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation carriers go about making decisions about reducing their risk of breast cancer with the goal of providing resources and support to better help high-risk women dealing with these issues. The study is open to participation by any individual who meets the following critieria:

1) You are a woman
2) You have tested positive for the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation one year or more ago.
3) You have never been diagnosed with breast cancer, or any other type of cancer (with the exception of basal skin cancer).
4) You have not undergone a prophylactic oophorectomy (surgical removal of healthy ovaries in order to reduce the risk of breast and/or ovarian cancers). Please note that women who have had prophylactic mastectomy are eligible to participate.
5) You are at least 18 years old.
6) You are able to read and understand English.

If you are interested in participating in this study please read more about the study and complete the survey on the study link. Your participation is greatly appreciated. The following link is where you can read more about the study and respond if you are interested in participating: http://www.riskreductionsurvey.com Thank you.

Please help these researchers with this very important study. Hopefully it will lead to a better understanding of how women at high-risk make make decisions about reducing their risk of breast cancer and will help the medical community assist women making these decisions in the future.

Warm regards, Sue
